About Us

The Metropolitan Health Insurance Fund (Metro) was created in 2020 by Joseph G. DiVincenzo to meet a growing demand for more stable, reliable health benefits options designed for mid-sized and large public entities in the North Jersey Metropolitan area.

The Metro HIF was fostered under the Bergen Municipal Fund for three years, building members and gaining fiscal strength, and separated to become an individual Fund in 2024. The Metro HIF is one of the fastest growing HIFs in the state, serving Essex, Hudson, Union and Middlesex Counties.

The Metro HIF is one of the New Jersey Health Insurance Funds – Powered by PERMA,  which created the original HIFs in New Jersey, and has an over 30-year track record for success and fiscal responsibility.

Testimonials

What METRO Members have to say about the power of the fund:

“As a Fund Commissioner and Executive Committee Member for the Metropolitan Health Insurance Fund representing the Plainfield Public Schools, I have seen firsthand the value that the HIF model brings to its member agencies. The collaborative structure of the HIF allows participating agencies to play a direct role in making important decisions that impact their own health insurance costs and benefits. This level of engagement enables member agencies to make informed decisions that best serve their insured populations and organizational needs.

I also believe the collaborative function of the HIF positioned its members to be better prepared for the implementation of the No Surprises Act compared to many agencies participating in more traditional health insurance plans. The ability to collectively share information, strategies, and operational insight created a proactive environment that benefited both employers and employees alike.”

Plainfield Board of Education Fund Commissioner

“Joining the Metropolitan Fund has transformed how we approach our annual budget.
By moving away from the volatility of traditional plans, we’ve achieved a level of premium stability that allows us to focus our resources where they matter most: our community and our employees. Thanks to our membership in the HIF, our budget increase was less than it would have been in the SHBP.”

Scotch Plains Fund Commissioner

“The Metropolitan Health Insurance Fund provides the Township of Bloomfield, the Bloomfield Public Library, and their employees with premium stability year over year. By joining the Metro, we eliminated our run-out claims liability, making our employee benefits budget much more predictable.”

Councilwoman Jenny Mundell
Township of Bloomfield, New Jersey

“Our clients appreciate the cost stability and data transparency that the Metropolitan Health Insurance Fund offers. MHIF’s highly competitive quotes have benefited our insurance professionals and clients who face ever-increasing costs in the challenging New Jersey healthcare marketplace.”

Michael Graham, Chief Operating Officer
Fairview Insurance Agency Associates

“The Metropolitan Health Insurance Fund has given our self-funded clients the ability to reduce their medical benefits budget through lower fixed rates and run-out exposure while maintaining the same level of coverage. Our clients have also been able to realize long-term savings potential through low stable increases and earned dividends.”

Julie Servidio, Account Executive
IMAC, a division of Acrisure

“The uniqueness of Metro HIF is that it provides clients with compliance resources, transparency and autonomy not found in state benefits.”

Viviana Lamm, VP of Benefits
Acrisure

“Reducing health care costs for my clients requires increased competition in health insurance. The Metro HIF has delivered very competitive renewal rates and I can always count on their service team to resolve benefit concerns in a timely manner.”
